In its opening sentence, Debka news service flippantly reports that President bush “gave Israel the nod for its long-delayed military operation against Hamas.” Isn’t it astonishing that Ehud Olmert in Israel waits for the go from George W. Bush in Washington before Olmert defends his country’s citizens?

Here’s something to think about… How would we react if the article lead with: “President Hu Jintao of China gave America the nod for its long-delayed military operation against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan?”

Here’s the actual excerpt:

President George W. Bush gave Israel the nod for its long-delayed military operation against Hamas in the Gaza before he ended his 50-hour visit to Jerusalem and Ramallah on Friday, Jan. 11 – except that his provisos stop the Israeli military short of its objectives, namely stamping out the Palestinian missile campaign, halting smuggling and eradicating Hamas military stockpiles, as reported here by DEBKAfile’s military sources:

Until recently, I like many others, was convinced that Rudy Giuliani was the best choice for Israel. And if you would have asked me why, I would answer in sentences that combined words like “9/11 hero,” “friend of Israel,” “he denied money from a Saudi prince,” etc.

I then discovered that our politicians give three times the amount of money to Israel’s enemies then to Israel. Three times! How absurd!

I then searched online confident that I would find numerous statements from Rudy condemning this dangerous policy. But nothing.

What I did find shocked me… among the client list for Giuliani Partners (Rudy’s security company that he still holds a financial stake in) was none other than the oil-rich terrorist State of Qatar. That’s right, Guiliani, was doing business with Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifah al-Thani, the emir of the royal family that praised Hezbollah’s “victory” over Israel and at one point harbored the man who would later be identified as the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks—a man named Khalid Sheikh Muhammad. Mind boggling I know, and Rudy doesn’t deny the ties. Watch the video below (especially the 1:35 mark)…

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

I then stumbled upon Ron Paul. His views on Israel were eye-opening, to say the least. He has consistently stated that our foreign aid to Israel’s enemies must stop.

After checking this out I all of a sudden saw the difference between someone like Giuliani saying and believing things about Israel, and someone like Ron Paul who would actually make proactive policy decisions that would directly benefit Israel and stop its enemies from growing stronger.

Giuliani can continue proclaiming his great love for Israel and the Jewish people, but until he pledges to stop funding its enemies, how can you take him seriously?

I think the choice is clear, so I’ve changed my vote to Ron Paul.

Please join us as we ask Rudy, the self-proclaimed friend of Israel, to pledge that if he be elected president, he will immediately end all US aid to Israel’s surrounding Arab countries and stop the militarization of those nations by our government. On second thought, we ask every candidate running to make that pledge.

It’s time Rudy and the others put their money where their mouths are—Ron Paul already has.

While traveling from Washington to New Hampshire to campaign, Ron Paul provides a statement to JTA (The Global News Service of the Jewish People) explaining his position on Israel.

I support free trade and friendship with all nations, meaning that my administration would treat Israel as a friend and trading partner. Americans would be encouraged to travel to and trade with Israel

Our foreign military aid to Israel is actually more like corporate welfare to the U.S. military industrial complex, as Israel is forced to purchase only U.S. products with the assistance. We send almost twice as much aid to other countries in the Middle East, which only insures increased militarization and the drive toward war.

In fact, combined U.S. aid to Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and other friendly Arab nations is roughly commensurate with the $2.4 billion military aid package Israel currently gets.

We have adopted a foreign policy that has left Israel surrounded by militaristic nations while undermining Israel’s sovereignty by demanding that its foreign and defense policies be essentially pre-approved in Washington. That is a bad deal for Israel, as sovereign nations must determine on their own what is a most appropriate national defense. On foreign policy as well, the U.S. steps in to prevent Israel from engaging in dialogue with nations of which the U.S. administration disapproves.”

-Dr. Ron Paul

That sort of fighting spirit is a job requirement in his new post: executive director of the group “Jews for Ron Paul.”

Paul’s candidacy was dismissed early on due to his support from white supremacist, Libertarian and other fringe groups, but the campaign has begun to pick up steam on college campuses and on the Internet, in part due to his staunch anti-war stance.

A longtime Texas congressman, Paul raised $4.2 million on Nov. 5 from 37,000 individual donors who agreed to give as part of a “money bomb” on the anniversary of the failed plot of British mercenary Guy Fawkes to kill King James I in 1605. In September, he announced that he’d brought in $5.2 million in the previous three months, putting him ahead of John McCain in the Republican money race.

Since the Six Day War, US presidents and presidential candidates have tended to speak of the US and Israel as great friends and allies. They have also tended to favor the shrinking of Israel’s borders. This has reached a low point under the Bush administration, which is the first one to explicitly make its policy the establishment of an Arab state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Thus, the US alliance with Israel has been a decidedly mixed blessing.

Israel receives military and financial assistance, and also some diplomatic support at the United Nations, but the US puts pressure on Israel to surrender parts of the homeland. Even worse, this relationship seems to foster a mentality of dependence amongst many Israelis who, it seems, cannot imagine Israel defying the United States in any major way.

In the upcoming presidential election, however, there is a chance to change this dramatically, by electing Congressman Ron Paul, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. Dr. Paul favors a non-interventionist foreign policy. He has written:

“Yet, while we call ourselves a strong ally of the Israeli people, we send billions in foreign aid every year to some Muslim states that many Israelis regard as enemies. From the Israeli point of view, many of the same Islamic nations we fund with our tax dollars want to destroy the Jewish state. Many average Israelis and American Jews see America as hypocritically hedging its bets…. It is time to challenge the notion that it is our job to broker peace in the Middle East and every other troubled region across the globe…. ‘Peace plans’ imposed by outsiders or the UN cause resentment and seldom produce lasting peace…. The fatal conceit lies in believing America can impose geopolitical solutions wherever it chooses.”
